Country: Sweden
Genre: Sludge/Noise Rock
Founded: 2001
GRATE considers themselves as a three piece metalhead unit even though they realize that nothing is that simple: sludge metal, sludgecore, trash metal, noiserock, post metal, doom, stoner, and so on. The list could be longer, but they just want to make noise and do it loud and manage to prove that 3 people can do it splendidly.
GRATE tells stories of happiness and violence, glory and murder, vengeance and love, all mixed and stirred in a bowl of the sick and twisted world we live in today and that we accept for some reason. The music is harsh, yet with melody, so that it feels simple, but in reality is not. Most of GRATE’s records have their own theme: «I For One» is about ’70s and ’80s slasher/splatter movies, «What You Think» is about ’90s metal music, «There Be Monsters» is about mental illness and «You Should Be» is about World War 2.
